KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Cuepacs today urged the government to consider a half-month salary as an Aidilfitri bonus for the 1.4 million civil servants.
Its president, Datuk Omar Osman, said the bonus could come in handy due the anticipated higher expenditure to be incurred as many civil servants prepare for the Aidilfitri.
"Many traders have raised the prices of goods in view of the festive season. The bonus can help the people tide over the higher expenditure," he said when contacted by Bernama.
Omar was asked to comment on the statement by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa yesterday that the government had yet to discuss Aidilfitri bonus for civil servants this year.
Ali had said that the government had announced a double salary increment for this year for civil servants.

"The double salary increment itself can be considered a bonus. However, since the government normally pays bonus at the end of the year, depending on the output, it is too early to discuss it," he had told reporters.
Omar said, however, that the double salary increment and Aidilfitri bonus were separate matters.
