KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- A total of 673,339 summonses against traffic offenders caught under Automated Enforcement System (AES) have been issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) as at June 11.
Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said compound fines amounting to RM20 million had also been imposed since the AES took effect in September 2012.
He said this in a written reply to Sim Tong Him (DAP-Kota Melaka) at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Hishammuddin said, so far, 14 AES cameras had been fully operational at their designated locations nationwide, except for Melaka, where suitable location for the installation of the camera had yet to be finalised.
The AES, which aims at reducing the number of road fatalities, uses high-technology cameras installed at certain locations to detect traffic offenders.
