WINDHOEK 04 FEB (NAMPA) – The councillor of the Windhoek West Constituency, George Trepper says his constituency office wants to empower its residents to eradicate poverty and hunger.
He said this during the handing-over of materials and equipment to eight beneficiaries here on Wednesday.
Trepper said the regional council is trying very hard to alleviate poverty and unemployment in order to realise Vision 2030.
“Like all constituencies, the Windhoek West Constituency has a responsibility to take care of its residents to eradicate poverty and hunger by empowering its people,” he said.
The donation include welding, catering, tailoring and salon equipment valued at N.dollars 150 000.
Among the beneficiaries are people living with disabilities.
“I am encouraging those who are benefiting today to start businesses which will be viable and sustainable to generate income and create employment,” he urged.
Trepper then extended an invitation to unemployed youth in the constituency to approach his office for assistance to start businesses.
One of the beneficiaries, Willem Cloete, said he is pleased with the support they received from the councillor.
“I am very happy, especially for a disabled person like me who is bound in a wheelchair. This will enable me to work at home and make a living from this machine,” said a jubilant Cloete.
He received a welding machine, and will use it to fabricate things like tables, gates and flower pots.
