Grootfontein soldiers promoted

GROOTFONTEIN, 03 FEB (NAMPA) – Thirty-eight soldiers at the Grootfontein Army Base in the Otjozondjupa Region were confirmed in their new ranks.
The Army Commander in the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Major-General Tomas Nghlifavali Hamunyela, announced the promotions of the 38 soldiers at a ceremony here on Monday morning.
During the event at the army base, Hamunyela said 23 staff officers and 15 other middle-rank officers in the army were considered for the new promotions.
“We considered you for this promotions because of the hard work, discipline and commitment you have shown. Therefore, keep it up,” said the Army Commander.
He also urged them to be prepared in taking up any other new responsibilities in serving the Namibian army and its people in future.
The 38 promoted officers on Monday assumed responsibilities in their new positions of major, lieutenant-colonel and colonel.
Hamunyela said about 3 087 soldiers have been promoted so far into different positions in the army at Grootfontein since January 2015.
From this figure, a total of 164 army staff officers were also promoted to senior posts in the army at Grootfontein on 01 January 2014, while about 2 885 soldiers were promoted to middle ranks.
Among those who attended the ceremony as special guests here on Monday was a Retired Lieutenant-Colonel, Peter Nandjendja.
Nandjendja retired from the Force at the Grootfontein Army Base in 2009.
