STAGE SET FOR THRILLING DRAK CHALLENGE
The Drak Challenge on Saturday is poised to have one of the toughest fields in recent memory with a full complement of the country's leading river marathoners set to square off at Castleburn Bridge in KwaZulu-Natal.
Double Drak Challenge winner and five-time Marathon World Champion Hank McGregor would be eager to right his wrongs of last year, when he was pipped to the post by four-time Dusi winner Andy Birkett after a rare mistake in the closing stages.
The 2013 Dusi champion Lance Kime had steadily climbed the Drak ladder in recent years and would look to be in the mix come Sunday for the overall spoils.
The women's clash would likely be contested by current powerhouse of the South African river marathon circuit, Abby Adie, Jenna Ward, Laura O'Donoghue, Tamika Haw and Peek sisters -- Jordan and Cana.
The race forms the first leg of the ICF World Series which harnesses some of the most popular river marathon races in the world, offering top paddlers the chance to accumulate points towards the overall series standings.
