SAPA PR--GAUTENG PREMIER DAVID MAKHURA, MECS AND MAYOR PARKS TAU TO VISIT SOWETO ISSUED BY: GAUTENG PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT ATTENTION: NEWS EDITORS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 23 JANUARY 2015 GAUTENG PREMIER DAVID MAKHURA, MECS AND MAYOR PARKS TAU TO VISIT SOWETO In a bid to end the ongoing violence that broke out in Soweto on Monday, Gauteng Premier David Makhura, MEC for Economic Development Lebogang Maile, MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, City of Joburg Mayor Parks Tau and MMCs will meet the residents of Soweto today. It is suspected that the shooting of a teenager allegedly by a foreign shop owner sparked protests and forced some foreign shop owners to flee the area. Two people have since died and foreign-owned shops have been vandalized and looted. The Premier and the delegation will converge at the Diepkloof police station before proceeding to a community meeting at the Doornkop Hall in Dobsonville.
