KUCHING, July 16 (Bernama) -- The Dayak Cultural Foundation (DCF) has been allocated land in Kota Samarahan, about 25km from here, to put up its proposed headquarters building, DCF chairman Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said today.
He said the site was right for DCF's plan for the building to be within the state's education hub as it is located close to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
"We have yet to determine the cost of the building. We want it to be modest but functional and catering for all the three main Dayak groups, which are the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu," he told reporters after receiving the ownership documents for 24 units of shoplots in Lubok Antu donated by the ASSAR Group to DCF.
Jabu, who is also a Sarawak deputy chief minister, said that since its formation in 1992, the foundation had been operating in a small place.
"We need all the assistance and cooperation from all parties in order to put up our own building," he said.
