WINDHOEK, 18 JAN (NAMPA) – Economic development for Namibia can only be attained through economic progress and prosperity, said German Foreign Office's Director General for Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel, Ambassador George Schmidt.
Addressing a media briefing here on Friday, Schmidt said Namibia and Germany’s development corporation is set to improve the conditions all people.
Schmidt was on a four-day introductory visit to Namibia, which ended on Friday. He met with representatives of government, political parties, the German political foundations and civil society.
He said he is happy to see that there is German economic involvement in Namibia.
Schmidt highlighted his visit to the Ohorongo cement factory, which is Namibia’s sole cement factory, as a success.
“An investment like this, which is a long-term commitment, will produce and add more value to Namibia and not to just to its imports and exports,” he said.
He also noted that Namibia has a lot to offer in the trading field and has a big advantage for foreign investments because of its political stability.
“Namibia has a good and functioning legal system and can always rely on this system to solve a problem,” he added.
Schmidt further said 2015 an important year for Namibia as the country will celebrate 25 years of independence and also mark 25 years of bi-lateral relations with Germany.
“Namibia is awaiting a new government-elect to assume its functions where we can engage and intensify our relationship,” he said.
