WINDHOEK, 08 JAN (NAMPA) - A TransNamib train carrying aviation fuel from Windhoek to the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) derailed on Wednesday.
The derailment occurred barely three months after a goods carrying train derailed in the beginning of October last year.
Ailly Hangula-Paulino, told Nampa that Train 2401, with six fuel tankers - of which four are carrying aviation fuel - derailed around 13h22 between Kapps Farm and the Nuedam station east of Windhoek, causing extensive damage to the railway line.
'Train services between Windhoek and the east will be now suspended until further notice' Hangula-Paulino said.
Meanwhile, fuel will now be transported via road to the airport.
No injuries were reported.
