Pregnant woman murdered by boyfriend

WINDHOEK, 06 JAN (NAMPA) – A 20-year-old pregnant woman was on Monday murdered by her 17-year-old boyfriend at Leonardville in the Omaheke Region.
The murder happened in Saamstaan location at the town, situated about 130 kilometres south of Gobabis.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Public Relation Officer (PRO), Pendukeni Haikali told Nampa on Tuesday that it’s alleged that the deceased escorted her boyfriend to the bushes to go relief himself at around 06h25 in the morning when she was murdered.
“Apparently, the deceased was sitting on the ground waiting for her boyfriend when she was approached from behind and had her throat slit with wooden knife,” Haikali said.
A post-mortem carried out on the deceased at the Leonardville hospital revealed that the deceased was seven weeks pregnant.The deceased has been identified as Lady Daire, 20 years old, and her next of kin were informed.
The suspect told the police upon his arrest that the deceased have been cheating on him with another man, which prompted him to kill her.
NamPol’s Deputy Commissioner in the Omaheke region, Marcelus Maritshane, advised people to handle relationship matters in a mature way and seek advise from family or church members.
“When you are having relationship problems, seek for advice from family members or from churches for counseling. You also need to accept that the relationship is over and move on,”he said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate's court tomorrow.
