WINDHOEK, 05 JAN (NAMPA)- Brave Gladiators Head Coach, Jacqueline Shipanga, said 2015 holds good prospects for the national women football team.
Shipanga, who boasted that her team will 'shine' during the year, told Nampa on Monday that they are going to play more friendly games this year, as they prepare for the Africa Women Championship Qualifiers to be played next year in Cameroon.
She stated that women football is growing locally and plans are underway to launch a women super league this year.
“This super league has not been agreed on yet, but plans are in place to launch one in March,” she said.
Shipanga said there is potential in Namibian women who play football, noting that the planned league will serve as an advantage to them.
The Gladiators will play German based women football team, Westphalia, in June, and also travel to Spain in August for tournaments to be held in that country,Shipanga said.
“All the matches that we plan to play this year will serve as a warm-up for the girls ahead of the qualifiers,” said Shipanga.
She further stated that they plan to play for international friendly games in Europe in order to expose their players to scouts.
Shipanga said there have been scouts who showed interest in Zenatha Coleman, who could sign an official contract to play outside the country this year.
She noted there are a few of her players that the team management do not want to expose yet, as the players are still young and need to be groomed more and complete school before they can be released into the international football market.
