School girl raped and killed in Tsumeb

ONGWEDIVA, 02 JAN (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region are investigating a murder and rape case after the lifeless body of a 13-year-old girl was discovered in a riverbed at Nomtsoub in Tsumeb on Thursday.
Police crime coordinator in the Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua told Nampa on Friday that the deceased was a Grade 6 learner at a school in Tsumeb.
Her body was found in a riverbed behind the Nomtsoub location’s Vision Flats at about 17h00 on Thursday. Her next-of-kin have been informed.
“It is suspected that she was strangled to death, and that she was also violated sexually,” Katjiua said.
The victim apparently left her home at around 21h30 on Wednesday in the company of a female friend, and was never seen again alive.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident, and Police investigations into the matter continue.
