Driver dies in road accident near Omuthiya

ONGWEDIVA, 02 JAN (NAMPA) – A motorist, aged 33, died on the spot on Thursday when his Toyota Corolla hit a cow that was crossing the Ondangwa-Oshivelo main road. The car was without registration numbers.
Regional crime coordinator in the Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) told Nampa on Friday that the crash took place at about 23h50 near Oshifukwa village, some eight kilometres from Oshikoto Region’s Omuthiya Town.
Police named the deceased driver as George Mulunga. The passenger in the same vehicle, 29-year-old Nicodemus Uukule, sustained serious injuries and is admitted to the Omuthiya State Hospital.
The next-of-kin of the deceased have been informed, and Police investigations continue.
Police at Omuthiya are also investigating a rape case, after an adult man of an unknown age allegedly forced himself sexually on a 13 -year-old girl at about 00h30 on New Year’s Eve.
It is said the suspect was escorting the victim home when he suddenly turned on the child and raped her.
Katjiua indicated that the suspect, who is known, was still at large Friday morning.
