PUTRAJAYA, July 15 (Bernama) -- The police will launch 'Ops Ramadan' and 'Ops Selamat' ahead of Aidilfitri in efforts to reduce crimes and fatal accidents, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said Ops Ramadan was an all-out-effort aimed at preventing and combating crimes while Ops Selamat was not only to keep the road safe, but also to enhance safety and security of housing areas.
The security situation in the country is now under control to enable Muslims to fast and pray in a peaceful surrounding during Ramadan, he said when receiving hari raya goodies from the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) at the Seri Perdana Complex here today.
He said an attempt by certain quarters to disrupt public order and harm national sovereignty through the Lahad Datu Sulu armed intrusion on Feb 11 was thwarted by the security forces and peace had been restored in several areas in Sabah.
On the couple who humiliated the Islamic month of Ramadan, Khalid said the case was being investigated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Tan Jye Yee, 25, and Vivian Lee, 24, touched the sensitivity of Muslims by uploading a photograph of themselves on Facebook eating bak kut teh (a pork dish) with the greeting 'Selamat Berbuka Puasa with bak kut teh' together with the 'halal' logo.
