HENTIES BAY, 30 DEC (NAMPA) – Three German tourists and three Namibians lost their lives in a head-on collision on Monday on the road between Henties Bay and Swakopmund in the Erongo Region.
The Crime Investigation’s Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa confirmed to Nampa on Tuesday that the head-on collision happened at around 17h20 some 12 kilometres south of Henties Bay.
A Ford Ranger bakkie, in which the tourists were travelling, collided with a Toyota FJ Cruiser which burst into flames on impact.
The deceased tourists are a 48-year-old man, his 49-year-old wife and their 19-year-old daughter.
A second daughter, aged 16, survived the accident and is currently in a critical condition at the Welwitschia Hospital in Walvis Bay.
“I understand the survivor will be flown to Germany within the course of today or tomorrow, where she will continue to get medical attention,” said the police commissioner.
Two Namibian females, aged 24 and 30, also died in the same accident, while details are still sketchy about the third Namibian casualty.
“We are still waiting for accurate details regarding the third Namibian deceased. The next-of-kin of all deceased persons have not yet been informed about the deaths,” Kashuupulwa said.
