KANGAR, July 15 (Bernama) -- About 27,000 needy Muslims in Perlis will start receiving contributions for Ramadan involving an allocation of RM4.05 million.
From the total, 1,427 recipients from the Pauh state assembly constituency were the first to receive the assistance from Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man at the Al-Mursyid Mosque in Guring, near here, today.
Azlan who is also the Pauh state assemblyman said the programme which involves various category of people from 15 state assembly in the state would end on Aug 4.
Among the recipients who stand to receive RM150 are senior citizens, single mothers, people with a disability (OKU), hard core poor and orphans.
He said the contributions for Ramadan was a yearly programme carried out by the state government during the Ramadan month but the amount may increase in the future.

The group of recipients would be from the Titi Tinggi state assembly constituency and expected to be held at the Lubuk Sireh Felcra Hall on July 17.
Meanwhile, speaking at a monthly gathering of Perlis civil servants, Azlan said Perlis need to work hard to achieve the target of becoming the cleanest state in the country by 2015.
He said the target could be achieved through the commitment of all departments and agencies from the public and private sectors.
