Chief Mpasi to be laid to rest Saturday

WINDHOEK, 26 DEC (NAMPA) - Ukwangali Chief Sitentu Mpasi will be buried on Saturday at the Mayara royal cemetery in the Kavango West Region.
A memorial service will be held at his house in the Mayara village on Friday at 16h00, said one of his grandsons, Stephanus Nekaro Kabono.
He told Nampa on Friday that president Hifikepunye Pohamba and Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku are expected to join the late chief’s family and subjects for the burial which starts at 10h00 on Saturday.
Mpasi died on 17 December at about 06h30 in the Nkurenkuru Mission Hospital.
He was 80.
The chief had been struggling with ill-health for many years, and was in and out of hospital recently.
Mpasi left behind his wife, seven children and several grandchildren.
He was the leader of the Ukwangali Traditional Authority since 1980 after taking over from his cousin, the late Chief Joseph Kandjimi, who died in 1979.
