WINDHOEK, 24 DEC (NAMPA) – A 21-year-old man died on the spot after he was run over by a car at the Mayara village in the Kavango West Region on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Kasera Japhet Ntjati, a resident of the Mayara village situated about 140 kilometres west of Rundu.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Acting Regional Commander in Kavango West, Chief Inspector Johannes Kudumo said in a report issued on Tuesday that the deceased was bumped by the vehicle while he was attempting to cross the road walking in the direction of Nkurenkuru.
The Inspector warned pedestrians to be extra careful when crossing public roads, especially during this festive season.
“Motorists should also be vigilant when driving and look out for pedestrians and animals close to the road. They should drive at a reasonable speed when approaching certain areas where there are a lot of people and schools to avoid these kinds of accidents,” said Kudumo.
A case of capable homicide had been opened with the Namibian Police. No arrest was made.
