Crematorium out of order

WINDHOEK, 24 DEC (NAMPA) – Operations of Namibia’s only crematorium situated at the Gammams Cemetery in the capital have come to a halt after a breakage experienced on Friday.
It also experienced problems over the same period last year.
The City of Windhoek's Public Relations Officer, Lydia Amutenya told Nampa on Wednesday that repairs on the crematorium are underway but there is no indication when the crematorium will be operational again.
She could not reveal the extent of the malfunction or how it was caused.
Amutenya indicated that a second crematorium is expected to be constructed in Windhoek next year.
“The tender for the construction of the new crematorium will be awarded early next year, but I cannot say where exactly the construction will take place,” she said.
Cremation is more cost effective than a burial and allows for valuable land to be put to other use.
