KUCHING, July 15 (Bernama) -- The second phase of the Sarawak Matriculation College's campus construction project is expected to begin before year-end for completion in December next year.
Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said tenders for the phase would be given in September.
Fatimah, as the minister responsible for Sarawak education affairs, said the implementation of the phase was due to the increase in the number of students who enrolled at the campus.
"For the first phase, the campus can accommodate a total of 89 students and the capacity could be increased to 160 when the second phase of the project is completed," she told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the Sarawak Matriculation College's delegation at his office here.
She said the first phase of the campus, costing about RM4.7 million, was completed early this year.
Fatimah said the establishment of the Sarawak campus was aimed at benefiting students in the state.
Prior to this, the Labuan Matriculation College was the only campus available for Sabah and Sarawak students.
