SWAKOPMUND, 18 DEC (NAMPA) – Coastal residents are in for a treat when the Zip Zap Circus opens on Friday.
The four-day circus includes artistic, trapeze and contortionist performances, as well as clowns and juggling acts.
Other activities are musical performances by local artists such as Marvin Sinzila, Janelle, Kwagga, The School of Dance, Vaughn Ahrens, Nomad Poet and Ramon.
Zip Zap Circus is a social event founded in Cape Town, South Africa in 1992, to inspire young people and help build a new culture of peaceful coexistence.
The sponsors for the Swakopmund event are Herco Marketing, West Coast FM and the Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre, where the circus will be held.
These sponsors on Wednesday donated 150 tickets to less-privileged children of Swakopmund to attend the event.
A ticket cost N.dollars 80 for children, but children under the age of two can attend the event for free.
Adults should pay N.dollars 120 per ticket, while VIP seats cost N.dollars 200. These seats are already sold out.
Swakopmund Mayor Juuso Kambueshe handed over the tickets to the 150 children, and applauded the sponsors for affording these children a chance to enjoy the circus together with other children from well-off communities.
“This event signifies unity of purpose and coexistence; these are things we need in our town,” said the mayor.
On his part, West Coast FM manager Clinton Lang said that by giving away the tickets and sponsoring the event, they aim to bring communities together and narrow the gap between the “have and have-nots”.
