MAGISTRATE ORDERS HEAVY MACHINERY DRIVER TO UNDERGO MENTAL OBSERVATION

BALIK PULAU, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Magistrate's Court here today ordered a man facing charges of criminal intimidation, committing mischief and giving false information to undergo mental observation for a month at Hospital Bahagia, Ulu Kinta.

Magistrate Muhammad Najib Ismail made the ruling after a request by deputy public prosecutor Charanjit Singh following a letter issued by a private hospital on Tham Choon Hai's health condition.

The letter stated that Tham, 37, who is a heavy machinery driver, had mental problems and had not taken his medicine lately due to financial problems.

On the first count, Tham is charged with committing criminal intimidation on G.Kartigeson, 41, at a car park of the Queensbay shopping complex at about 3.30pm last July 10.

He is also charged with committing mischief on Kartigeson, causing the later to suffer losses of RM300, at the same place, time and date.

On the third count, Tham, who is unrepresented, is charged with making a false police report in which he claimed that a policeman had stolen RM2,000 from his sling bag.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Bayan lepas police station at 9am on the same day.
