TEHRAN, July 15 (Bernama) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday unveiled 13 recombinant drugs, made using recombinant DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) techniques, saying they will reduce Iran's need to imported drugs, Iran's IRNA reported.

Ahmadinejad said he wished that Iran would witness a day when all fundamental needs are provided domestically, praising the efforts made by all Iranian scholars, techno men, managers, experts and investors.

These techniques involve modifying the DNA to contain genes from two different sources. Recombinant technology is often used to produce extremely pure therapeutic drugs.
