OSHAKATI, 09 DEC (NAMPA) – The servicing of 300 erven at Okaku Kiipupu suburb in the south of Oshakati is near completion, Oshakati Mayor Onesmus Shilunga said on Friday.
Speaking immediately after his re-election as mayor for a fourth consecutive year, Shilunga said the servicing of the 300 erven is part of several development projects which the town council has embarked upon.
He pointed out that more 1 059 erven are to be completed soon in Okaku Kiipupu suburb, following the completion of bulk service provision for Ehenye suburb.
Shilunga said the town’s open market is in the final stages of construction, and it will also be inaugurated soon.
The recently commissioned dyke construction and deepening of the Okatana River system are two other important projects that are also underway at Oshakati.
These two projects are included in the Oshakati Master Plan, and they are considered as some of the most feasible initiatives that can be undertaken to make the town less susceptible to floods.
It is believed that the construction of the dykes around Oshakati will alleviate flooding and facilitate an easier flow of floodwater through the town.
The implementation of the Oshakati Master Plan is anticipated to cost N.dollars 1.8 billion, and the Namibian Government is expected to provide much of the necessary funding for its execution.
