WINDHOEK, 07 DEC (NAMPA) – An eight-year-old boy drowned in the Goreangab Dam in the capital on Friday at about 14h45.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Sergeant Slogan Matheus said during the weekly crime briefing here on Sunday that the deceased, identified as Angelo Gaseb, went to the dam with friends to swim.
Eyewitnesses said he swam, got stuck in mud and drowned.
His next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.
Also in the capital, the body of a 42-year-old man was discovered dead in a river near Etetwe Street at about 17h00 on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Simon Alfred Ndaedelao, drowned in the strong river which took his body from the Okahandja Park informal settlement to near Etetwe Street in Okuryangava.
“The deceased’s body was found stuck to a wreck of an old motor vehicle, which is in the river,” Matheus said.
His next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, the body of an unidentified man was discovered hanging dead from a tree near Penning Street, opposite the Moses van der Byl Primary School, on Saturday at around 13h00.
According to NamPol, the deceased hanged himself with a nylon rope.
The deceased’s voter’s card was found in his pocket, and his next of kin are yet to be informed of the incident.
No suicide note was left behind, and police investigations continue.
The police is also investigating the shooting of a NamPol sergeant after a bar brawl in the Greenwell Matongo residential area of the capital on Thursday.
It is alleged that the deceased was sitting with seven friends around a table at Nicky’s Burban Bar in Eveline Street when some remarks made did not go down well with some of the people sitting at that table.
“The deceased then drew a pistol, which was then grabbed by one of his friends. The deceased went home and returned with another pistol, and demanded the first pistol back,” Matheus said.
The deceased was handed back his pistol, and walked away from the bar.
Matheus said two gunshots were then heard, and the police officer was found dead with both pistols next to his body.
One of the pistols was identified as a service pistol and the other a personal pistol.
It could, however, not be established who shot the officer.
Police investigations continue.
