BULAWAYO, 04 DEC (NAMPA) – The opening ceremony of the 2014 Under-20 Zone Six Youth Games has been postponed to Sunday.
The opening ceremony of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA)-run games was scheduled to take place in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on Thursday.
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe was set to officially open the event, but could not do so as he was attending the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) politburo meeting taking place in Harare this week.
The SCSA games were, however, still set to kick off on Friday.
Team Namibia on Wednesday started with their training sessions after arriving on Tuesday afternoon.
The 125-member team departed from Namibia on Sunday, and will compete in football (men and women), track and field, boxing, netball, swimming, basketball and tennis.
The team also consists of Paralympic athletes.
The games will run for two weeks until 14 December.
In the 2012 edition of the Zone Six Games held in Lusaka, Zambia, Namibia ended second.
