MUHYIDDIN JOINS KUALA BESUT RESIDENTS FOR TARAWIH PRAYERS

KUALA BESUT, July 13 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin joined Kuala Besut residents for Isyak and Tarawih prayers at the Kampung Baharu Mosque here tonight.

He was welcomed on arrival at the mosque by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Besut Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and the Barisan Nasional's(BN) candidate for the Kuala Besut by-election, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman.

After the prayers, Muhyiddin, who is also the BN's election director for the by-election, mingled with the congregation before returning to Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier, he had attended a breaking-of-the fast function and performed the Maghrib prayers at the Pengkalan Sentol Mosque here.

Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman, 37, a civil engineer with the Drainage and Irrigation Department who hails from Kuala Besut, faces PAS's Endot alias Azlan Yusof, 48, a contractor, in the by-election, polling of which is on July 24.

The by-election has been necessitated by the death of assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar of the BN of lung cancer on June 26.

He had won the seat with a 2,434 majority by beating Napisah Ismail of PAS in the general election on May 5. Kuala Besut has 17,683 voters.
