KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry today presented a grant of RM500,000 each to five voluntary welfare organisations chosen to develop nurseries for disabled children.

They are the Malaysian Down Syndrome Association, Malaysian Association for the Blind, Perak Association for Intellectually Disabled, Sibu Autistic Association in Sarawak and St Nicholas Home in Penang.

Its minister, Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said, the nursery for the disabled aims to provide children with quality upbringing, as well as act as an early intervention for disabled children.

"We want each target group to feel loved, appreciated and not neglected although they are different from other people.

"We want to bring them into the mainstream. That is the message," Rohani told reporters at the Kar1sma Ramadan 2013 breaking fast function, here today.

She added the RM500,000 grant covered the cost of building the nursery, equipment, infrastructure and operations.
