Pohamba praises ECN for credible elections

WINDHOEK, 01 DEC (NAMPA) – President Hifikepunye Pohamba has praised the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) for conducting free, fair and transparent 2014 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He made these remarks during the announcement of the election results here on Monday.
The election was held last Friday.
Pohamba said that despite challenges, the ECN conducted credible, modern and successful elections which comply with regional and international standards.
“Namibia is proud of these men and women who worked day and night to give our country a high quality election process,” said the president.
He noted that the Director of Elections, Professor Paul Isaak and his entire team did a magnificent job during the elections.
“Professor Isaak and your team, the nation is grateful for your dedication and commitment to duty; you have given the nation credible, free and fair elections,” he stated.
Pohamba also congratulated the entire nation on successful elections, saying it is another demonstration that multi-party democracy had grown deep roots in Namibia as its chosen system of governance.
He further commended all political parties which participated in the elections for the contribution to strengthening democracy in the country.
Pohamba applauded president-elect Hage Geingob from the Swapo-Party as well the newly-elected Members of Parliament.
