KOTA MARUDU, July 13 (Bernama) -- Three telecommunications companies incurred losses estimated to be worth RM24,000 when a Digi substation in Kampung Tanjung Batu, near here, was broken into.
Kota Marudu Police Chief DSP Mohd Isa Yusof said the incident between early June and July 10 was only realised when a Digi contractor lodged a police report regarding the disappearance of 24 Maxis batteries and 24 Celcom batteries in the gated area, believed to have been stolen.
"Initial police investigations found that the substation was shared by telco companies Celcom, Maxis and Digi, whereby the suspect entered the premises by cutting the main gate's lock before cutting the lock of the cabin where the batteries were installed," he said in a statement today.
He said that the substation located about 100 metres from the main road and villagers' home was not monitored by a security guard, but was only equipped with a security alarm.
Traders of used goods are advised not to buy stolen goods and to call the Kota Marudu Police Station at 088-662449 or Investigating Officer Insp Zulkairi at 012-8344368, he added.
