KUALA LUMPUR,

July 13 (Bernama) -- A local apparel company today brought smiles to 150 families in Puchong as they received 900 pieces of 'baju raya' ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration.

The recipients from Flat Enggang in Bandar Kinrara could not contain their excitement as they received baju Melayu and baju kurung in various hues and sizes from representatives of Gene Martino, the producer of Gene Martino apparel brand.

Mother-of-four Junaidah Mohamad, 38, said she was grateful for the clothing items which would help lessen the cost of preparations for Hari Raya.

"This is the first time that my family has received such a contribution and I'm very happy that my children will get to wear new clothes during Hari Raya," she told Bernama.

The Flat Enggang residents included Indian families who were no less delighted to have received the items.

Their sentiments were summed up by a resident, who wished to be only identified as Sellvamutha, 33, who simply said: "Seronok. I'm very happy. Thank you."

Izjulia Ishak, a representative of Gene Martino, said some 2,000 pieces of baju raya would be distributed to selected charity homes, needy families and Orang Asli communities throughout the country with the advent of Ramadan and Aidilfitri celebrations.

"It's one of the activites under the 'Meraikan Ikatan Bersama' programme organised by Gene Martino in collaboration with Community at Heart, a non-governmental organisation," she told reporters.

Izjulia said about RM225,000 was allocated for the initiative aimed at bringing cheer to those who were not well off.
