GEORGE TOWN, July 13 (Bernama) -- Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir today visited former Kedah Menteri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak who is still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Penang General Hospital (HPP) here.

Mukhriz, who was accompanied by his political secretary Datuk Azimi Daim, arrived at the hospital at 12.55pm and spent about 20 minutes visiting Azizan in the ICU ward.

Mukhriz told reporters that Azizan seemed to be recovering and currently his condition was stable.

"This time, he is conscious and recognised me and tried to talk although his voice was not clear.. I feel his condition or progress is now far better compared to the day I came over a month ago. Alhamdullillah, his condition looks better than before," he said.

Meanwhile, Azizan's wife, Puan Sri Faekah Sheikh Hamzah said Azizan's condition haD improved, however, the healing process would take longer.

She said her husband used the writing method to communicate and also intends to give cattle as alms for a feast for the hospital's staff.

Azizan, 73, who is also the Sungai Limau assemblyman, had his legs amputated following complications from diabetes in early May.

On May 8, he was transferred to the hospital from the Kedah Medical Centre after he was treated for leg infection, two days earlier. Among dignitaries and leaders who have visited Azizan were Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, Penang Governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his wife Toh Puan Majimor Shariff, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Kedah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Azizan had to relinquish the post of Kedah Menteri Besar following the defeat of the opposition pact to the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th general election on Mei 5.
