RUNDU, 16 JUL (NAMPA) - Five young men appeared in the Rundu Magistrate?s Court on Tuesday for allegedly gang-raping a 15-year-old girl at the Sauyemwa informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu on Saturday.
Two of the accused persons are aged 16 years old and their names can thus not be released, while the three others are Ephraim Makuti, 18, Donatius Siremo, 21, Emiliano Katombela, 18.
All five opted to conduct their own defence after Rundu Magistrate Hellen Olaiya informed them of their right to engage a legal representative of their choice.
The magistrate then postponed the case to 12 September for further police investigations and for screening the two under-age suspects.
The two minors were released into the care of their guardians and parents, while the remaining three were granted bail of N.dollars 1 000 each.
Shortly after the court case was adjourned, the parents of the accused persons and the victim had a heated altercation outside the court room, accusing each others? children of the offence committed.
Some parents demanded that the first accused?s parents pay the bail fee of his fellow suspects, as he was allegedly the only one who committed the offence - something the first accused, one of the two minors, disputed.
