WINDHOEK, 21 NOV (NAMPA) – The national under-20 (U-20) women’s team held the senior national women’s football team to a five-all draw in a friendly match here on Tuesday.
The younger team will participate in the Zone Six (Z6) Games in Zimbabwe from 04 to 15 December this year.
U-20 coach Bertus Bock told Nampa on Wednesday that the friendly match was part of his team’s preparation for the southern African regional games in Bulawayo.
“So far everything is great. Everything from our side looks good and the girls are really performing well,” he said.
Bock noted that the senior team, affectionately known as the Brave Gladiators, are giving them good training.
The two teams will continue playing friendlies every Tuesday until the U-20s depart for the games.
The coach gave the training programme to some players who are unable to train with the rest of the team due to ongoing school examinations.
Twenty U-20 players will represent the country at the Z6 games, and so far there are no injuries in the team.
This team and an U-20 men’s football team are part of 102 athletes who make up Team Namibia. The other codes are netball, tennis, boxing, track and field, and swimming.
They will depart on 30 November 2014.
