Councillor Shifidi takes oath

EENHANA, 18 NOV (NAMPA) – The newly-elected councillor of the Ohangwena Region’s Endola Constituency, Ferdinand Shifidi took his oath as political head of that constituency at Eenhana on Monday.
The Chairperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council, Paulus Mwahanyekange presided over the ceremony, which was also attended by Ohangwena regional governor Usko Nghaamwa and other councillors of the region.
The 63-year-old Shifidi from the Swapo-Party was elected as councillor during the Endola Constituency by-election that took place on 07 November this year.
He won the election with 6 633 votes, compared to the 631 votes that went to Hafeni Pius of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and the 68 votes for Venda Denis Kahangu from the Congress of Democrats (CoD).
The Swapo-Party, RDP and CoD were the only political parties that participated in the Endola Constituency by-election.
The election followed the death of the constituency's former councillor Ruth Kepawa Nhinda in August this year.
A total of 7 332 out of the more than 11 000 registered voters participated in the Endola Constituency by-election.
