OSHAKATI , 16 NOV (NAMPA) - President Hifikepunye Pohamba presented the Swapo-Party’s presidential candidate, Hage Geingob to thousands of supporters during the party's election campaign rally at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Pohamba was impressed by the large crowd of supporters who attended the rally from all over northern Namibia, and described it as the biggest turnout since the Swapo-Party started its 2014 election campaign rallies.
The Head of State called on those attended the rally to go to the polls on 28 November in similar big numbers to give the ruling Swapo-Party and Geingob a resounding victory.
“When you vote for the Swapo-Party, you vote for peace, stability and socio-economic development,” Pohamba, who is also president of the Swapo-Party, said.
He, however, pointed out that all Namibians deserve applause for having kept Namibia peaceful since the first day the country attained Independence in 1990.
He indicated that the Swapo-Party government has done a lot in terms of development for the country, and will continue doing so if given another mandate to be in charge of the country’s administration.
Pohamba also presented the Swapo-Party National Assembly candidates, who were in attendance, to those in attendance at the rally.
“There will be a new government next year and I prefer that government to be led by comrade Geingob. He is the second man in government, he is the second man in the Swapo-Party,” he said.
Some 18 former members of opposition parties in the Oshana Region were issued with Swapo-Party membership cards during the rally.
Of the 18, 10 were previously members of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF), while four each were from the official opposition Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and Congress of Democrats (CoD), respectively.
