OSHAKATI, 15 NOV (NAMPA) - Fourteen former members of the opposition joined the Swapo-Party at Oshakati on Thursday.
They were welcomed into the party by SwapoÂ’s Oshana regional coordinator, Erastus Kapolo.
The group included the elderly Fillemon Kakili and youthful Hilia Gabriel from the official opposition Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), as well as Festus Nakambonde, Linus Shiimi and Eunic Johannes, who were all from the Congress of Democrats (CoD). The rest of the group were young people who said they were recruited as members of the newly-formed Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) in September this year.
The group said they were “misled with false promises of job opportunities” by the opposition parties.
Speaking while receiving the new members at the Swapo-Party regional office situated at Kandjengedi in Oshakati East, Kapolo said all 14 were supporters of Swapo before joining the opposition.
“We thank you for realising that you have to come back home,” he said.
He also urged them to work hard for the Swapo-Party, especially during its current campaigns to mobilise supporters for the Presidential and National Assembly elections that are due to take place on 28 November.
Abraham Ndumbu, one of the leaders of NEFF, and his colleague Festus Shaduva were also at the Swapo-Party office to receive their partiesÂ’ election campaign materials that were in the possession of their former members.
