WINDHOEK, 11 NOV (NAMPA) - German airline, Condor, made its maiden flight between Frankfurt and Windhoek, landing at the Hosea Kutako International Airport at 20h35 on Monday. A total of 259 passengers were on board.
The historical flight was witnessed by German Ambassador to Namibia, Onno Hückmann; Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Works and Transport, Peter Mwatile; Acting CEO of the Namibia Airports Company (NAC), Tamer El-Kallawi and several travel agents.
Speaking during the brief welcoming ceremony of the Condor aircraft, El-Kallawi said NAC is committed to provide world class airport services and abide by the highest safety standards.
'In line with the key lessons learnt during the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Coordinated Validated Mission (ICVM) audit, we at NAC are delighted to announce that the staff had undergone intensive training in aviation safety and security to boost the depth and scope of our operations,'he said.
El-Kallawi assured all airlines making use of the Hosea Kutako International Airport that the NAC will strive to provide a safe and secure environment fro them to operate in.
German Ambassador,Heuckmann, welcomed the new service between the two countries noting that it will enhance service provision through competition between the two airlines.
'With another airline now offering flights between Namibia and Germany, it will now be even more easier for people to visit Namibia,'Hückmann said.
Condor started their flight operations in 1956. The airline ferry around 7 million passengers annually to around 75 destinations in Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
The Condor airlines have been part of the Thomas Cook group since 2013. The Thomas Cook group comprises of 88 modern and environmentally friendly aircrafts, of which 40 aircraft are in the Condor fleet.
The airline will offer two flights per week between Windhoek and Frankfurt on Mondays and Thursdays, arriving at 20h35 and departing on the same day for Germany at 22h05.
The route will be serviced by a Boeing 767-300 with a seating capacity of 259. The flight duration is around 10 hours 35 minutes.
