OHANGWENA, 07 NOV (NAMPA) - More than 11 000 potential voters in the Ohangwena Region’s Endola Constituency are expected to go to the polls on Friday to elect their new regional councillor.
The death of the former councillor of the Endola Constituency, Ruth Kepawa Nhinda in August this year necessitated the by-election.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s returning officer for the by-election, Kerthu Shipoke told Nampa election officials were issued with voting materials at the police station at Helao Nafidi on Thursday.
Seventeen teams of 68 ECN officials will be in charge of the voting process at the 23 polling stations throughout the constituency.
The election process was set to start at 07h00 and will run until 21h00 on Friday.
Shipoke said the announcement of the results will be done on the same day if everything goes according to the plan.
The ruling Swapo-Party, official opposition Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), and the Congress of Democrats (CoD) are the only political parties participating in the Endola Constituency by-election.
Candidates for the councillor position are Ferdinand Shifidi (Swapo-Party), Hafeni Pius (RDP) and Venda Denis Kahangu (CoD).
