ONGWEDIVA, 05 NOV (NAMPA) – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s returning officer for the Endola Constituency by-election, Kerthu Shipoke says preparations for the by-election are in full swing.
Speaking to Nampa in a telephonic interview from the Endola Constituency office at Oshawapala village on Tuesday, Shipoke said election teams on Tuesday afternoon prepared the electronic voting machines (EVMs) to be used at the respective voting centres.
Seventeen teams of 68 ECN officials will be in charge of the voting process at the 23 polling stations where the constituency’s over 11 000 potential voters are expected to cast their votes this Friday.
Election officials will be dispatched to the polling stations on Thursday.
The ruling Swapo-Party, official opposition Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and the Congress of Democrats (CoD) are the only political parties participating in the Endola Constituency by-election.
Candidates for the councillor position for the constituency are Ferdinand Shifidi (Swapo-Party), Hafeni Pius (RDP) and Venda Dennis Kahangu (CoD).
The by-election was necessitated by the death of former councillor Ruth Nhinda in August this year.
