Accident claims three lives in Omaheke Region

GOBABIS, 03 NOV (NAMPA) - A vehicle accident along the Gobabis-Buitepos road in the Omaheke Region claimed the lives of three young people on Saturday.
The three victims were school children, with their ages ranging between 13 and 18 years, according to police reports.
The accident occurred near the turnoff to the Ernst Meyer Primary School, some 50 kilometres east of Gobabis in the Omaheke Region.
According to the Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Deputy Commisioner Marcellus Maritshane, the accident occurred because the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and overturned.
It is not clear what had caused the driver to lose control over the vehicle, but this matter is now under police investigation.
A 15-year-old girl, who was a Grade 9 learner at the Wennie Du Plessis Secondary School at Gobabis, and the driver - an 18-year-old boy - died on the spot.
Another girl, aged 13, said to be a cousin of the deceased Grade 9 learner, was initially rushed to the Gobabis District Hospital for treatment, but she succumbed to her injuries hours later.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed at the time of writing.
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the trio were on their way to the recent 80th anniversary celebration festivities held at the Ernst Meyer Primary School, when they met their fateful end.
Police investigations continue.
