WINDHOEK, 02 NOV (NAMPA) – Citizens Football Club (FC), Tigers and Orlando Pirates registered wins in their Namibia Premier League (NPL) matches played over the weekend.
The encounters formed part of the triple header that was played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday.
In the opening match of the day, Citizens FC defeated Civics FC 1-0 through a goal by Osvaldo Vries in the 73rd minute of the game.
After the game, Civics coach Christy Guruseb said his team lost their game because of individual errors.
“Today we were too erratic; Citizens played on our mistakes and got the three points. All I will say is it was a bad day at the office and we hope to bounce back in our next game because most of our players did not play according to the instructions. There was a lot of individual play today and it cost us the game,” said Guruseb.
Citizens coach George Ochurub said his team needed the three points more and came to get them.
“We played Civics on 15 minute intervals and got the results. We knew if we attack them every 15 minutes we might get a goal. Right now we are looking at winning more games so we can at least end up in the top five as we are here to compete and not just participate,” Ochurub stated.
The win moved Citizens to ninth on the log, while Civics dropped down to seventh position.
Meanwhile in the other games, Tigers thrashed Rebels 4-0 to move up to third place in the log standings.
A brace from Letu Shatimuene in the first half and individual goals by Absalom Imbondi and Lucky Kooper in the second half gave Tigers a comfortable victory.
Tigers are now third on the log on 11 points.
In the last game played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Orlando Pirates beat Mighty Gunners 1-0 through a first-half goal by Marcello Haraseb.
The win moved Pirates to 10th place on the log on six points after five games.
In other results outside Windhoek on Saturday, Blue Waters won the coastal derby after beating Eleven Arrows 3-0 in Walvis Bay.
In Outjo, Benfica and Touch and Go drew 2-2 and in Rundu, United Stars beat Julinho Sporting 1-0.
Round six of the NPL will continue next weekend.
