BANGKOK, July 12 (Bernama) â€"- Thailand is stepping up its preparation towards the Asean Community by 2015, gathering its top Asean diplomats and its provincial governors to discuss progress on Asean community building.
The Thai Foreign Ministry said, with the Asean Community on the horizon and relations with neighbouring countries a cornerstone of Thailand’s foreign policy, the event was an opportunity for its top regional diplomats and the country’s provincial governors to consult on key regional challenges. The challenges include development cooperation, connectivity and sustaining Thailand’s role in Asean, it said in a statement here today.
The foreign ministry will organise the two-day meeting of Thai ambassadors and consuls-general to the Asean region, beginning July 14, and will join the ministry of interior in organising a meeting of Thai envoys with provincial governors on July 16 and 17. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will chair an official meeting between the envoys and governors on July 16. -- MORE
