GEORGE TOWN, July 12 (Bernama) -- A telephoned bomb threat by a man caused a stir at the Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd's office in Sungai Tiram, Bayan Lepas here today, but was ultimately determined to be unfounded.

Southwest district police chief Supt Hatta Md Zin said a bomb disposal unit was sent to the scene after receiving a report on the threat at 9.53am.

"After combing each floor for 90 minutes, we found that it was a prank call," he told reporters here today.

Employees, who were cleared from the four-storey office, were allowed to return to work at noon.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both once, if convicted.
