KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- General Electric (GE) and AirAsia have collaborated with EPIC Homes to build a home for an Orang Asli family in Batang Kali, Selangor in conjunction with GEâ€™s Global Community Day on July 6.
In a joint statement today, the parties said the project employed a Rapid Building System to make the building system and design more effective for dynamic environments while increasing building efficiency.
It also incorporated a Pay-it-Forward Programme, where recipients of the homes were also required to build houses for their neighbours, it said.
John-Son Oei, co-founder/chief executive officer (CEO) of social enterprise, EPIC Collaborative Sdn Bhd, said with the success of this project, it hoped to collaborate further with the corporate sector.
EPIC Homes is an initiative by EPIC Collaborative to provide homes for underprivileged Malaysian communities.
The statement said GE Volunteers Network and AirAsia contributed capital investment with thirty employee volunteers.
Stuart Dean, CEO of GE Asean and Aireen Omar, CEO, AirAsia Bhd were on site to build the home, it said. -- BERNAMA
