KUALA BESUT, July 12 (Bernama) -- Every step of the Kuala Besut state by-election process, starting with today's nomination up to polling and counting of votes on July 24, will be recorded by the Election Commission (EC) to be used as a model for future elections, EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said today.

He said the Kuala Besut by-election process had been the best so far compared to all other elections.

"We want to make the Kuala Besut by-election a model for managing future elections and to train EC staff as well," Wan Ahmad told reporters after the nomination at the Kampung Raja Rakan Muda Complex, here.

"We may distribute it to the media for the benefit of public viewing so that the people know what actually goes on and won't be duped by any quarters," he added.

Commenting on the nomination process today, Wan Ahmad said that on the whole it had proceeded smoothly.

"Supporters from both sides were well behaved. It's Ramadan, so we didn't hear any coarse language," he said.

The Kuala Besut by-election is a straight fight between Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS candidate Endot alias Azlan Yusof.

The seat fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar (BN) on June 26.
