KL SHARES REMAIN HIGHER AT MID-MORNING

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning today, with buying interest seen in selected heavyweights led by BAT, which was up 34 sen to RM60.24, dealers said.

At 11am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.76 points to 1,783.91, after opening 3.85 points better at 1,785.0.

However, dealers said further gains was capped by losses in consumer stocks like Nestle, which fell 38 sen to RM68.60, and Tan Chong Motor losing 17 sen to RM6.53.

Market breadth was positive, with 281 gainers and 210 losers, while 268 counters were unchanged, 817 untraded and 16 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 412.93 million shares worth RM397.23 million.

Meanwhile, the Plantation Index rose 38.87 points to 8,469.58, the Industrial Index gained 3.03 points to 3,007.75, the Finance Index rose 0.191 points to 16,966.56, and the FBM Emas Index garnered 18.08 points to 12,409.17.

The FBM 70 Index bagged 13.71 points to 14,209.46 and the FBM ACE Index slid 19.09 points to 4,744.79.

Among actives, Luster rose half sen to 10.5 sen, Pantech added four sen to RM1.04, and TH Heavy Engineering gained two sen to 46 sen.

As for the heavyweights, Maybank fell four sen to RM10.40, while CIMB and Axiata were up three sen each to RM8.31 and RM6.83, respectively. -- BERNAMA
