Omaruru to host road mile

WINDHOEK, 14 OCT (NAMPA) - Omaruru will host the second edition of the Erongo Powersave Road Mile on Saturday.
The maiden edition of the 1.6 kilometre road run took place at the town last year October.
Erongo regional director of sports, Berthold Karumendu said during a media briefing here on Tuesday that this year’s event will see athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds participating in the competition.
“We are expecting to host athletes from Opuwo and Aranos this year. The main aim of this event is to bring all long-distance runners together.
Our vision is for Omaruru to be viewed as the host centre of sports in the future,” he said.
Karumendu added that the road mile will also attract athletes from abroad, including South Africa and Botswana.
The race’s five categories are senior; junior; primary; veterans and masters.
All will have a male and female winner.
Prize monies vary between N.dollars 700 and N.dollars 3 000.
