SWAKOPMNUD, 13 OCT (NAMPA) – The towns of Henties Bay, Khorixas and Outjo have completed the construction of houses as part of the national mass housing programme.
The National Housing Enterprises (NHE) Regional Manager for the Erongo Region, Karl Schroeder told Nampa on Monday that Khorixas completed 30 houses, Henties Bay, 33, and Outjo 20 houses.
“We are just waiting for extra serviced land so that they can start constructing more houses in those towns,” he said.
In Walvis Bay, 89 houses are almost completed in the Kuisebmund residential area, 51 are nearing completion in the Narraville residential area.
In Swakopmund, 120 houses are nearly completed.
Most of these houses are already painted, and are just being given the “finishing touches” like tiling. Others are at roof level.
Schroeder noted that all the completed houses will be handed over to the NHE by the contractors at the end of this month, and those houses which are near to completion should be handed over by November this year.
He noted that many houses in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund are still at foundation level.
The project aims to build about 5 500 houses in Erongo within a period of two years. Construction of some houses started in March this year.
A total of 185 000 houses are to be built nationwide between 2013 and 2030.
The government will invest N.dollars 45 billion in the project in an effort to address the housing shortage in the country.
