KEETMANSHOOP, 13 OCT (NAMPA) – President Hifikepunye Pohamba issued a stern warning to Namibian men to refrain from beating and killing women and children.
He said the country is ready to protect its citizens against male perpetrators through the Namibian Police Force and, if necessary, the services of the Namibia Defence Force would be enlisted.
Pohamba said this during the well-attended Swapo-Party Star Rally held in Tseiblaagte at Keetmanshoop on Sunday.
“What is wrong with our men – are they drunk?” Pohamba began his speech.
“The women and children of the country need to be protected - not from lions or snakes, but from men,” he said in exasperation.
“The men seem to have become snakes,” the president told the crowd who seemed to agree with him.
Pohamba advised men to immediately cease their violent behaviour.
